Jan Koum, founder of Whatsapp, said on his Facebook page that the messaging app has passed the number of 800 million active users . A user will be referred to as active as he or she logs in at least once a month. How high the number of registered users has not been reported.

WhatsApp – now serving 800,000,000 monthly active users. Reminder for the press out there: active and registered users are not the same thing 🙂

The figures show that Whatsapp keeps growing under the management of Facebook. In January, the service recorded the figure of 700 million active users. This means that tens of millions of new users joins the messaging service every month . There were earlier rumors that users would switch to competitors because of its acquisition by Facebook, but those messages do not seem to add up.

If growth continues to persevere, Whatsapp gets this year the number of one billion users. This brings the number of active users closer to that of parent company Facebook, which has according to the latest figures about 1.35 billion users.

Whatsapp added in recent times a number of new features that have contributed to the strong growth in the number of users.
