About Netflix
Netflix was founded in 1997 in Scotts Valley, California by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings. Hastings had the idea to start Netflix after he had to pay late fee for the movie Apollo 13 that he had rented. On 14 April 1998, the Netflix website went online with 30 employees and 925 movies to rend. Four years later, the company was listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange.
International
Netflix was only active in the United States until September 22, 2010, but since then also went online in Canada and so become an international company. Then the company announced in the spring of 2011 that at the end of the year they wanted to offer their services in Latin America. The following year they would start the European market, starting with Spain. Netflix has not established itself in Spain, but it did in Latin America.
On January 9, 2012, the company started in Europe. In October the same year, Netflix also launched its website in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.
On the night of 10 and September 11, 2013 Netflix launched at midnight in the Netherlands. The range consists of both Dutch and foreign movies, series, documentaries, concerts and cabaret. All foreign content will be available with subtitles, with the exception of programs for young children on the channel Netflix kids, which are dubbed. Content for older children and teenagers will usually subtitled, sometimes even the choice of dubbing is possible.
On May 20, 2014 Netflix released a press release announcing that their service will be available in Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Luxembourg at the end of 2014.
