About Myspace
The domain Myspace.com was initially a place to post free files, but was canceled in mid-2001. In July 2003 the domain was purchased by Tom Anderson. The site was an undertaking of the company Intermix Media until in July 2005 it was bought by News Corporation at a cost of 580 million dollars.
MySpace was one of the most popular websites on the internet and was often seen as a typical example of the so-called Web 2.0 trend. According to Alexa, a collector of web statistics, Myspace was in 2006 at number four of the most popular websites in English and at number eleven of the most popular websites in the world. On January 30, 2012 Myspace had dropped to 154th place.
On November 18, 2006, the French publisher Universal Music Group went to court, because there would be copyright infringement. Visitors of the site had movies and music put down without checking the copyright. Similar problems also happened on YouTube.
