About Microsoft

Microsoft developed and sold BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800. It managed to take over the personal computer market with its MS-DOS operating system in the mid-80s of the 20th century. This was later followed by Microsoft Windows. The popularity of the products meant that three employees were billionaires and 12,000 employees millionaire. Since the 90s of the 20th century, Microsoft has acquired several companies. In May 2011, Microsoft took over Skype Technologies for $8.5 billion that is Microsoft’s largest acquisition to date.

In 2012, Microsoft is the dominant company in the market for PC operating systems and the market for office software (Microsoft Office). The company also develops more diverse software for desktops and servers, and is active in the search engine market (with Bing), the video game industry (with the Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One game consoles), and mobile phones (Windows Phone).

In June 2012, Microsoft announced that it will enter the market for the sale of hardware in tablet field with its Surface. Microsoft also sells various kinds of other hardware such as keyboards and computer mice. Xbox itself is also developed by Microsoft.
