In mid-2007, the website launched versions in French, German, and Spanish translated by users unpaid mainly to boost its expansion outside the United States, since its users were concentrated in the US, Canada, and the UK. Facebook has more than 1350 million members and translations into 70 languages. On August 9, Facebook reached 1350 million users, of which more than 700 million were mobile users. Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and the United States are the countries with the most users, however there are users who have more than one location.
Its main infrastructure consists of a network of over 50,000 servers using distributions of GNU/Linux operating system and LAMP.
The main criticism of the social network and the company always have focused on the alleged lack of privacy suffering its millions of users. These criticisms were increased in 2013 when it was discovered that the NSA and other US intelligence agencies monitor the profiles of millions of users and their relationships with friends and co-workers.
On April 9, 2012, it was announced that Facebook acquired Instagram for one billion dollars. On February 2014, the heads of Facebook announced the purchase of mobile messaging service WhatsApp for $16,000 billion dollars.
