Discover Card is an American credit card issued by Discover Financial Services. Discover is, like American Express and Diners Club, a closed network, ie the Discover Financial Services acts as both card issuer and card acquirer. The opposite is an open network, such as Visa and MasterCard.
Discover Card launched in the US in 1985, as the first credit card which rewards program linked to the card was in the form of money.
2008 bought Discover Financial Services Diners Club International from previous owner Citigroup.
Novus, a large processing center, was a partner of the company. The Novus logo since then was retired and was replaced by the logo of Discover Network.
On August 23, 2006, Discover Bank announced an alliance with Japan Credit Bureau. The two companies have signed a long-term agreement that is leading to unifying the two circuits making greater coverage.
Most branded cards are issued by Discover Bank. Discover card transactions are processed through the payment network Discover.
