About Comcast
Comcast was founded by Ralph J. Roberts, Daniel Aaron, and Julian A. Brodsky in 1963. The company was established in 1969 in Pennsylvania, under the name Comcast Corporation from American Cable Systems. A former employee said that the name “Comcast” is derived from “Communications” and “Broadcasting”. Comcast has been in a period of years largely owner of Comcast-Spectacor, Comcast SportsNet, E! Entertainment, Style Network, G4, Golf Channel and Versus (now NBC Sports Network).
NBC Universal
On February 1, 2011 Comcast received 51% of the shares of NBC Universal, becoming the main owner. The new joint venture are also parts of the Comcast Programming Group and Comcast Spectator. Through this acquisition, there were many new synergy opportunities. The previous owner, General Electric (GE) held 49% of the shares, but in February 2013 Comcast took it over for $ 16.7 billion. NBC Universal was the result of a merger of the media activities of the French Vivendi SA and GE in 2004.
