Comcast Corporation is an American media company with headquarters located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Comcast is the largest US cable operator. Comcast also has interests in consumer electronics, in television, and film as a result of the purchase of NBCUniversal.
Comcast was established in 1963 as the American Cable Systems by Ralph J. Roberts, Daniel Aaron, and Julian A. In 1969, the company declared in Pennsylvania under the name Comcast Corporation.
In 1986, Comcast takes a 25% of Group W Cable. In 1988, Comcast buys 50% of Storer Communications and the American mobile operator Cellular Network Corporation. In 1990, it buys Metrophone and merges with American Cellular Network. In 1994, the company bought the Maclean-Hunter Cable division becoming the third US cable operator.
In 1995, Comcast acquired a majority stake in QVC electronics manufacturer and resells in 2004 to Liberty Media. In 1996, Comcast Online launches an internet access service via cable. In 1997, Microsoft is investing one billion USD in Comcast.
In 1998, Comcast sold its UK subsidiary to NTL. In January 1999, Comcast sold its mobile subsidiary SBC Communications. In 2002, Comcast acquired AT&T Broadband (cable television division of AT&T), becoming the only US cable operator.
