About Club Penguin
Club Penguin is an online multiplayer game for children involving a virtual world containing a variety of games and activities, developed by Club Penguin Entertainment (New Horizon Interactive). The player can use the little penguins as main characters of the game, where they can walk, talk, play minigames and participate in activities with other players in a snow-covered virtual place.
It all started with a game called Penguin Chat and then when Disney took over, after passing the tests in beta, Club Penguin was opened to the public on October 24, 2005, and since then it has expanded to form a large online community with more than twelve million accounts. Although there are free additions available, the main source of revenue is formed by the incorporation of a paid model to allow users to access additional features such as buying clothes, furniture and pets (called puffles) for penguins. The success of Club Penguin led to the acquisition of New Horizon by Disney in August 2007 for the amount of $350 million, plus a bonus of 350 million to achieve targets set for 2009. In 2012/2013 the co-founder Lane Merrifield was left in charge of the game, leaving the responsibility to Polo Field and Spike Hike.
