About Chase
The Bank of the Manhattan Company was founded by Aaron Burr in 1799. The name of the Chase National Bank comes from Salmon P. Chase, which has nothing to do with this bank. In the 30s, the bank merged with the Equitable Trust Bank of John D. Rockefeller II.
Although the Chase National Bank was the largest of the two banks, the acquisition of the Chase National Bank was organized by the Bank of Manhattan Company.
Under David Rockefeller, the bank was part of the holding Chase Manhattan Corporation. The acquisition of financial firm Robert Fleming & Co in 2000 was the last purchase in the history of the Chase Manhattan Bank. In the same year the Chase Manhattan Corporation and JP Morgan & Co. Incorporated went together as JP Morgan Chase & Co.
