How to block numbers on the iPhone

Are you often called by a number that you are not comfortable with? Then it is possible to block the call. In this article, we will explain how.

Since iOS 7, blocking a number on the iPhone is an option. Before it actually was not possible to block anyone except via a jailbreak or complex workarounds. But in the latest versions of iOS, this is not a problem. If there is a number which calls you often and you want to make sure that it stops, then you are in this article to the right place.

Block iPhone number

Blocking number is quite simple. If you get a call from a number that you want to block, do the following:

  • Open the Phone app;
  • Go to the tab is “Recents”;
  • Next to the number you want to block, tap the “i”;
  • Scroll down and choose “Block this caller;
  • Tap again on “Block contact” and you’re done.

The caller can now no longer reach you. In addition to phone calls, the person can no longer make FaceTime calls with you and sending text messages has also become impossible. In addition, voicemails are no longer on.

Undo Blocking

If you change your mind and you want to unblock the caller again, then you can. Go to the Settings app on your iPhone, choose Phone > Blocked. Right of the screen, tap Edit, then you press the red button that appears for the contact. Then choose “Unlock” and you are again accessible.

Can you block anonymous callers?

Unfortunately, it’s a different story when a call is made anonymously. You can not call back the number, and blocking such a number is not possible. There are some apps which should make it possible, only they are quite dubious. However, there is a workaround.

For example, you can put your phone on Do Not Disturb. You do this by going to Settings > Do Not Disturb. There, you tap Allow calls and set it to “All Contacts”. Is your phone on do not disturb, then only your contact can reach you. Of course, this has its disadvantages, because the other calls do not come through, possible important phone calls that you do not have in your contact list.
